Why EDC?

I think it's easiest to describe why EDC is a good choice to service your WebSite creation and maintenance needs by first stating how people and organizations usually go about acomplishing their web goals. Even though these goals are unique to every project, company, or individual, there are generally 3 paths that are taken to accomplish them. These 3 paths are:

  • 1.) Using a Wizard to create and edit your web content, usually provided by big name branding, such as GoDaddy, Intuit, google, and others. By following this path, your site is usually hosted with them as well. Usually, you are limited in design and function, but you also do not need to know about the inner workings of the web to create your content.
  • 2.) Using downloadable, paid or shareware management systems or site builders that make building a website easier, and that contain ready accessible features for the site or store administrator. These systems are usually based off of a server-side language that is then hosted by a host provider. Some examples are Joomla, Magento, and Drupal. These applications or frameworks can run on a variety of platforms and come in a variety of formats depending on the applications focuses and purposeses. They usually contain some commonly used web features, ie. blogs, content and/or image management utilities etc.., and act as sort of a "framework" for your goals.
  • 3.) Building a website from scratch using base languages such as HTML, CSS, PHP, WebDNA, flash, AJAX, Javascript etc.. This method is highly customizable and can be hosted in the widest range of host providers. This method requires someone, or sometimes a team of someone's, that know about the languages and technologies involved for that task at hand. This path may include aspects of path #2.

Decisions are made amongst these three solutions depending on a lot of criteria, with perhaps the most important criteria being resources and goals. Each solution can have merit. A simple web site may work best using solution #1 if you don't know a lot about the inner workings of Web hosting and you don't want to know. A do-it-yourself'er may choose any of the above depending on the level of involvement and the available resources to that person, as well as the task at hand. A business owner that wants a significant presence on the web, and that has changing and custom needs, would most likely benefit from #3.

Euca Design Center can offer services in all 3 of these paths, but we specialize in working with serious website needs via path #3; building design, form, and function from the ground up and then acting as a resource for quick changes, feature additions, and other maintenance.

Benefits of Building from the ground up
There are lots of reasons to choose any of the paths above. However, since I'm not writing a book, and instead trying to portrait the advantages of EDC, I'll focus on #3. If you or your organization are looking for quick web changes, close interaction with your website, professionally written code, and versatility in what you can accomplish, there is no better solution than hiring an experienced Web Development house such as EDC to build the system you want. Time is money and time is what you save with EDC with features and changes happening quickly. Hiring an outside source leaves you, your department, or your company free to concentrate on those things that you do best. Often a client will hire EDC to build a virtually "developer free" system where, after initial development, they can then manage the content on the site themselves.

About EDC Web Services
EDC, in short, is the culmination of experiences and ambitions of Donovan Brooke. When you hire EDC for WebSite services, you really hire a human who has been in the business of servicing Web Development needs for many years. EDC believes that personal and punctual communication leads to realistic and rewarding expectations for the client, and works to create longevity in working relationships. By punctual, I mean that if EDC foresee's a potential issue regarding deadlines, expectations, or what-have-you, it is best to bring that issue to the "communication table" as quickly as possible. It is this transparency that works to avoid problems and negative experiences. Click here to learn in more detail about the tools and resources EDC provides.

EDC Extended
EDC, though not heavily advertised, acts as incubator as well as a production house for a variety of unique and artful projects and products. Mediums (other than Web Development) include: Home embellishments in glass, metal, and wood (example), Traditional conceptual design rendering, and other creative mediums such as sandblast etching (example) and airbrushing (example). EDC also houses a modest but professional (DigiDesign, ProTools) sound studio.

As it's name implies, it is a mission of EDC to remain open, when resources permit, to many forms of creativity as a "design center".
